Welcome to the Majin-Planet IRC Chat room, the following is a simple help file to help you learn about IRC.
First off, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, and there's many ways of accessing IRC. You can use a Web-Application, or what's called an IRC Client, which is a program that allows you to access IRC without having to use a web-browser.
Basic IRC Commands:
- /me text goes here :: This performs an action.
- /msg Nick :: This allows you to open a Private Chat with another user.
- /join #Roomname :: This allows you to join a room, replace #Roomname with the name of the room, including the # symbol.
Those are the basic IRC Commands. Thankfully, the IRC Server we operate on, called Sorcerynet, has services called NickServ, ChanServ, and MemoServ.
NickServ allows you to register your nick, so that other users can't take/use it, unless they have the password you specify. The commands are as follows:
*note: Replace the items that are enclosed in <> with the requisite information; remove the <>s aswell.
This Registers your nick:
- /msg NickServ register <Password> <E-Mail@whatever.com> This allows you to "Identify" yourself to nickserv, under your nick.
- /msg NickServ id <Password>
- /msg NickServ <Nick> <Password> This lets you set your Email Address:
- /msg NickServ set address <E-mail@whatever.com>
- /msg NickServ set email <E-Mail@whatever.com> This lets you retrieve information on a nick:
- /msg NickServ info <Nick>
This lets you set your NickServ password:
- /msg NickServ set password <New Password>
*About Channel Operators, and Voiced Users:
Ops are the people with power in the room, they are the people who have an @ infront of their nick. Be -very- respectful to these people because they -can- Kick you, or ban you from the room.
Voices are the people with a + infront of their nick. Usually these are respected members of the room, and they can still talk when the room is Moderated.
